Reviews of Bourquin Dental Centre of Abbotsford in Abbotsford

I needed to find a new dentist due to our recent move to the lower mainland. Searched reviews and settled on Bourquin Dental Centre as their reviews seemed to be a bit better than others. I called to make an appointment about 6 weeks ago and asked how much it would cost for a new patient appointment with a cleaning. I was told $190 (which was more than some of the other dentists, but thought the reviews were worth it). After I signed up for their services I started getting pretty frequent text messages about my and my husbands upcoming appointment. I thought, good. They are communicative and organized.

A day before the appointment I got a call asking me to call them back to get the quote for my upcoming appointment. Well, I had the quote ($190), so I thought nothing of it. My husband and I arrived at the appointment. The place was very clean and nice looking. The receptionist was not wearing a mask but was behind the plexiglass.

We waded through many pages of new patient input and were asked to go in after putting on provided PPE. As soon as I was in the chair (about 30 minutes after I arrived) I was presented with the quote which was the following:
Scaling 3U - $141
Rt Planing 1 u - $47
Exam - $103
4 BW XRay - $37.60
Panoramic Xray - $67.60
Polishing - (I didn't pay this so cant remember exactly but was around) $40
Fluoride - (I didn't pay this so cant remember exactly but was around ) $35
Not exactly $190....
I said that I only wanted to get the cleaning. After some discussion between the hygenist and the dentist outside of the room that I was in, they said ok.
I am used to getting a really good teeth cleaning (was going to the same dentist for years before I moved). Would usually be in the chair for 1 hour for just the cleaning. But this time, the cleaning was no longer than 15 minutes. The rest of the time the hygenist measured my gum levels about 40 minutes. In other places, the hygenist would do this in 5 minutes - as she would measure and call out the numbers to someone else inputting the information.

While the hygenist was doing the measurements the dentist came into the room (not wearing a mask and standing 2-3 feet away from me). She wanted to explain that the reason that I was called yesterday was to go over the quote. She was passionately defending the billing. At this point I knew that I would never be back, but didn't appreciate the dentist coming in without a mask.

My husband said that for his cleaning he was in a lot of pain - which never happened to him before. The doctor did the measurements of the gums and then the hygenist did it again (the hygenist charges per 15 minute block...so I guess that is how they make money). Also he was told that he has 6 developing cavities and the cost for those would be about $1500.

As a kicker, my husband and I were each charged $10+ tax for the gowns that they made us wear + the mask, which was not of what I was shown in the chair.

Never again.

My visits to Dr. Cesar's office are always very good. I never have any complaints.
