I lost my best friend I ever had a year ago at Firth vet. This day brings back a lot of painful memories for me. Firth vet robbed me of my faith and trust in vets. I had the most special sweet loving dog you would have ever met. I spent 8.5 amazing years with him. Everytime I think of him I can't help but think of the horrible events that happened on the day I lost him and the weeks to follow. I can't even fit all that had happened into this review, so I will prioritize what scarred the most. I've kept every single voicemail, text message and the recording I have from the day I was finally allowed to pick him up. Immediately after dropping Ronnie off, he had taken a turn for the worse. I got a call saying I needed to be there incase he didn't make it. They said when animals are in that state it's best to have their loved ones with them. If they are alone, they sometimes can feel abandoned and will just give up. After saying that, they refused to let me go in until hours later. I begged for just five minutes. Those words ran through my head every moment and still do to this day. For hours it was touch and go for my Ronnie. He kept dying and they kept bringing him back, all while going through this alone and without me. They had told me his kidney and pancreas were shutting down. His diabetes count was so high it couldn't be read. His heart kept stopping and he was no longer able to breathe on his own. When I was finally allowed in, they were bringing him back again. I asked if his brain was gone and there was any point to be constantly bringing him back. Dr. Firth then stopped and informed me that his brain was indeed gone. I'm not a vet, so I don't know if it was the right thing to do but it felt very wrong. I was devastated to lose my boy and that he went through so much all alone his final day. The next morning I called to make arrangements to put my boy to rest. It was a long 23 day process before they finally gave him back. 23 days before I was finally able to put him to rest. I explained on several occasions that it was absolutely ripping my heart out to think of him laying in a box inside a drawer, like he meant nothing. 23 days of no sleep, not being able to eat, a pain in my heart just wanting him out of that horrible place and laid to rest. It controlled every thought of every day. I called and messaged every day. I kept getting the run around. I cried, yelled and begged them over and over. The only reason they finally replied is when my daughter left a review on their Facebook page of what was going on. The day I picked him up, Nicole threatening to withhold him again and demanded the review be taken down. What Firth vet put my baby and I through was wrong on so many levels. I don't want anyone to have to go through what I did. There are vets out there that care about the animals and their parents, and Firth was the least compassionate. They were cold, heartless and unprofessional. They lied, manipulated me and ignored my calls and messages. I made arrangements with a mobile pet service to care for my Ronnie's remains. The kindness and compassion they showed my Ronnie and I was the complete opposite of the way I was treated at Firth. It took the weight off my shoulders. I felt like finally he was finally shown the tenderness he deserved. I feel completely scarred from all the events that happened at Firth. I'm hoping that writing this review will give me some kind of closure. I hope I can start mourning in a healthy way for my boy instead of thinking about what they put us through. My baby's story deserves to be told.
