Last month I made the mistake of placing my laptop in a backpack together with a few hardware tools which ended up damaging my laptop's screen, the computer itself was still working perfectly fine and I just needed to replace the screen for it to be back to normal, I searched on the internet and chose this person to replace my screen, I went to his house and I have to say he was very polite and reasonable in that first contact, I turned on my laptop in front of him to let him know that the machine was working fine and that the only issue was the damage in one corner of the screen which he acknowledged and accepted doing the job by saying that it would be perfectly fixable as the computer was woking fine except for the left side of the screen, I even handled to copy all my files from the laptop before bringing it to him as I could still use the left side of the screen and also conected an external monitor to have full access to my files. We agreed on the price and delivery date, I was leaving to Europe in 3 days and I needed to bring my laptop with me so I agreed to pay for the express delivery of the screen coming from BC.
Two days later I received a call from this person with these words:
-Your laptop screen has been replaced but we have a problem, it doesn't start anymore.
I thought he was joking but he was not.
The onlything I can think of is that he replaced the screen without disconnecting the battery and fried my entire motherboard! You don't need to be a NASA engineer to know that.
This would be like taking your car for a windshield replacement and getting it back dead because the engine was killed in the process, ridiculous!
I went to his place to talk in person and under any circumstances he wanted to take responsibility for killing my laptop, started arguing about irrational reasons on why my almost new laptop died in his hands, he even said that a little scratch in one of the corners of my laptop indicated that I probably dropped my laptop and this caused the issue, blah blah.
My computer has been babied from day one, it even goes into a protective sleeve before going to my backpack, I just didn't know that a bit of pressure from other tools in the backpack would cause this damage on the screen which is very flimsy in this model.
I didn't have the time to keep arguing and told him to repair my laptop anyways and I would pay for the costs involved and again, He said he couldn't do it because he didn't know a way to get a mother board for that model of laptop (that's when he, without any questions admited that he killed my motherboard).
He handed me my dead laptop and told me not to pay for the screen that he replaced and that he will run with the costs involved.
I don't need his money I need my laptop working or at least in the same condition that it was delivered to him.
I must understand my level of frustration at this point, I decided to record a video from that point on to keep track of what happened after when I took the computer out of his place, so he doesn't have grounds to say that I ran away without paying for the screen or something as I didn't trust him anymore.
My computer was delivered to him in perfect working conditions internally just needed a screen replacement and what I got back was a dead laptop, those are the facts.
I just got back from Europe and now gave this case to my lawyer to see how should we proceed as this was an absolutely unfair situation and very poor managment of the situation, somebody who should at least have insurance for this type of situation but guess what, he doesn't even give you a receip or document stating the situation of the equipment he receives or even where it says that he actually has your laptop.
He also said that he didn't care if I gave him a negative review which was surprising.
Again what kind of service is this?
Now, my question to YOU reading this review is: what would you do in my situation?
Have a great day everyone.
