WARNING - Adrenaline Gymnastics in Vaughan Endorses Abusive Coaching Techniques. My 9 year old daughter attended Adrenaline Gymnastics during the fall and winter season of 2021/22 in the pre-competitive program. My daughter, who is very shy, began showing signs of distress a few months into the program. She expressed an unwillingness to go to gymnastics, a sport she loves very much. One day after her class, she was crying and told me about how the coach was making her feel bad when she wasn't able to properly do the gymnastic skills they were learning. I asked the gym to speak to the coach about the matter and perhaps tell her to be more encouraging with my daughter and the other kids. After the next class, my daughter was crying and told me how the coach stopped speaking to her, but instead, grabbed and squeezed her arm hard and pulled her to the various apparatuses. I explained to my daughter that no one has the right to handle her physically and how this is a form of abuse.

I reported the abuse to the gym and they still let the coach finish teaching her remaining classes that evening. They waited until the next day to suspend her. I don't understand why they didn't remove the coach immediately after I reported the abuse. As well, my daughter has observed her grab other kids in the same manner, she told me that the kids are afraid of her and don't want to say anything. The gym conducted their own investigation without calling the police to look into the matter. If this had happened in a school the police would have conducted the investigation not the friends of the accused. After a few days they decided to lift the suspension and reinstate this coach. All this was emailed to me with no explanation why. They didn't have the decency to phone me or meet with me about how they came to their decision.

Needless to say, I immediately pulled my daughter out of the program. She is now with Bolton Gymnastics and is much happier. I wrote this review because I felt that the community had a right to know about how Adrenaline Gymnastics is handling their business.

In sports, there has been a long history of this dynamic between coaches and young athletes. These old school coaches feel like berating and grabbing is acceptable. Especially in a sport like gymnastics where there is a physical engagement between coach and student. We are living in woke times, mental health in sports is coming into awareness. Some coaches believe it's their privilege to be a bully. I have no tolerance for it.
